ADDITIONAL SUPPORT STAFF
ALAN BARKER
Sound Recordist, DV and Audio Consultant, Field Producer
Starting as a news cameraman at age 17, I later graduated from the Motion Picture Division, UCLA. After producing classroom films for a decade I freelanced as a cameraman and sound recordist, eventually landing in sound, video/audio consulting and PAL camera rentals. My primary interest is in documentaries and documentary-style production. I usually work on 30 plus documentaries a year, most of which have been for British television. I guest lecture regularly at UCLA and taught at the Cameroon Television Workshop for Johns Hopkins University and at the International School of Film and Television in Cuba. In July, Joan Churchill and I finished a 53-week stint as a producing/shooting team on a 13 part documentary series using the Sony PD150. I believe that the development of high quality small format video is facilitating a badly needed revitalization of both documentary and dramatic production. My teaching and consulting efforts have been in support of that movement.
